  Disturbing parallels between the Westboro Baptists and the WTS

  i have just published a post on jwstruggle.com where i explore the disturbing parallels between the methods and attitudes of the westboro baptist church and jehovah's witnesses.. you may be aware of two recent bbc documentaries by louis theroux, one of which was called "the most hated family in america", the other "america's most hated family in crisis".

  i feel that both are excellent viewing for those of us with wives or loved ones who are trapped in the "borg" and wish to draw attention to the similarities between the society and other more obvious cults.. if you would like to read my post, it is on this link: http://www.jwstruggle.com/2011/10/a-troubling-comparison-part-1/.

  in reply to questions raised in the thread i started on 10/3/11, victoria, australia: wtbts and gb of jws have shown themselves to be "guilty" respecting previous noncompliance with working with children laws,i said i would talk to contacts in australia and get some answers.

  Did any of you need counselling or psychotherapy as a JW?

  i have just started my new course to be a qualified counsellor.

  naturaly i am studying this because of my own background and now i want to help others who have had similar strains on their lives.. i know the pressure that the jw organisation puts on its members, so i was wondering, if you dont mind saying so of course, did any of you attend counselling sessions due to the pressures and problems that the jw life brought along?.

  i can imagine that the majority of my old congregation (myself, my dad and my brother included) would need some form of counselling or medication in order to remain sane.

  I'm having my second set of counselling. My first set of sessions I had about 6 months after finding out the 'truth about the truth'.

  been lurking for over a year now, "bout time i posted my story.. in 1985 i was your regular 19 yo just digging life & looking forwared to what the future had in store.

  this was also when i met my first serious girlfriend.

  in 1993 i moved to toronto from ottawa in order to work more.

  Little sis got shunned today by big sis

  i called my sister today and they said "we were shunned today.

  " normally this is a bit of a non event after all how many faders get shunned on a regular basis.

  i asked who it was and they said "big sis" now this is a shock.

  i used to cut, when i was a jw.

  i'm not blaming it all on being a jw, but i know it didn't help.

  does anyone on this baord have/had this problem, or a similar one?

  Did you have any Elders CO's/DO's that were "Hung up" on certain things????

  we had an elder that was hung up on mens haircuts he had a real thing about how short mens hair should be and even told one bro off for parting his hair down the middle.. even told one bro to shave off his sideburns.. a c.o who was paronoid about sound always telling the bro in charge off.. .

  a d.o who orded the attendants to remove crying babys from assemblys on more than a few occations...hans hubler for those that know him..

  We had a CO who was obsessed with everyone having their own bible, including the youngest of children. He would have an attendant march around the hall with bibles during the meeting.
